Infrared Heat for Efficient Digital Printing
With digital printing, infomation is transferred directly from the computer to the printer, with no need for an intermediate print carrier. This enables personalised printing of items such as bills, labels, forms, cards or games tickets. With this, the ink must be dried as quickly as possible to keep pace with the printing. With water-based inks, much can
be gained with a simple drying system change. If a Heraeus Carbon Infrared (CIR) system is used to replace a dryer fitted with short wave emitters operating in the near infrared (NIR) region then, very often, the full capacity of high speed print heads can be best achieved. It has been shown too that the print quality can be maintained even at these increased speeds. Moreover, the new emitters demand less energy and have a significantly longer operating life. This greatly improves the efficiency of a printing system.
For single pass printing, the ink is applied and subsequently dried virtually immediately. Single pass printing is used for Book on Demand or for bills which are automatically printed. Often these require a code or an address to be printed in a specific field on the form or bill.
With scanning systems, a unit made up of a preheating system, print head and dryer travels over the substrate, which can be a photograph display stand, lorry tarpaulin and other forms of publicity materials.
