30 Realignment of HR strategy and organization The worldwide HR organization was restructured and expanded in 2014 as part of the Heraeus Group’s strategic realignment and reorganization. This more effective HR organization is to play a key role in driving international business success through ongoing efforts to recruit and develop talent, through a Group-wide leadership culture that rewards performance, and through the introduction of talent programs and career concepts aimed at training and upskilling staff. In 2014, alongside the implementation of the new HR strategy, there was a particular focus on providing inten- sive HR support in the reorganization of the business groups. For the most part, solutions were found within the Heraeus Group for employees affected by job cuts. Preparations were also made for measures that from 2015 will bring HR services into line with the new structure, which involves a change in the role of HR employees at global and local level. The HR management projects aimed at further interna- tionalizing Group functions were continued in 2014. This included harmonizing administrative processes in health and pension management as well as a continued push to standardize assessment procedures and guidelines for staff appraisal interviews. In 2014, health management was improved again though a number of programs and initia- tives. One project aimed at improving mental health in the workplace was honored at the 2014 HR Excellence Awards organized by Human Resources Manager magazine. Enhancing the employer brand The global employer brand, which has been in development since 2012, was presented to the public in the middle of last year. Through a PR campaign, job adverts, and active media work, all brought together under the banner Open Space. For Open Minds® , Heraeus is positioning itself as an employer of choice for executive talent, university graduates, and people with specialist skills. The PR and job ads and the internal employer branding campaign won various awards. Heraeus also participates in the Germany Scholarship and in other initiatives through which it aims to recruit skilled workers, and is thereby responding to the challenges presented by demographic change.
