54 expansion of the grounds only marginally possible. “The current structure of the works grounds has developed in a very fragmented way in the past. Many of the interrelated areas, which are actually necessary for efficient processes, are thus located far apart from one another today”, ex- plains the site manager. Dollansky and his team have thus devised a project plan, which provides a completely new structure for the grounds. “Overall, the headquarters will be more clearly divided in future into functional areas such as administration, devel- opment, production and logistics in order to allow shorter distances, clearer structures and thus greater efficiency when it comes to working together. Furthermore, the reor- ganization should also create greater flexibility in functional areas in order to be able to adapt better and faster to future developments,” says the site manager. Heraeus Innovation Center Firstly, the restructuring will include several larger projects in addition to many smaller single steps. In order to create space for production and logistics at more suitable sites on the works grounds, existing parking lots were already relocated to marginal areas of the company premises in 2014. “The areas freed-up in this way are now avail- able for the further reconstruction of the site in Hanau”, explains Dollansky. The centerpiece of the future Heraeus Technology Campus should finally be completed in the spring of 2017 – the new Heraeus Innovation Centre is to be located where the logistics area is today. A large part of the employees from Research & Development at the Hanau site will work here in future and collaborate more closely beyond the borders of technologies and the markets. “With the Innovation Centre, we want to significantly strengthen the exchange, creativity and cross-border collaboration in Research & Development. It will be an expression of a new innovation culture at Heraeus and offer our developers an optimal, modern working environment”, explains Dollansky. Thus, the new building will house more than 200 office and laboratory workplaces on about 14,500 square meters. Organized not according to corporate divisions, but rather in general competence areas, R&D staff will work together in future on the Heraeus products of tomorrow. “By ac- commodating the majority of the development staff at the Hanau site in one building, we will be able to offer a plat- form for more regular and more spontaneous exchanges, from which ideas and innovations can emerge that perhaps have not even been considered today”, says Dollansky. In order to ensure the reconstruction within the required time schedule, a main part of the current logistics will have to be relocated to various work sites and the pro- cesses will have to be adapted accordingly. The particular challenge is going to be restructuring logistics during on- going production, with only a few alternatives possible as well as the intermediate steps that are required as a result. “This will require not only all of our ability, but also close, ongoing coordination with the different divisions”, says the site manager. As manager of the Heraeus Site Management, Dollansky and his team are not only responsible for the development of buildings at all Heraeus sites in the Rhine-Main area. The tasks of HSM furthermore comprise of different areas such as site logistics, maintenance, energy supply, hazard prevention or the operation of the cafeterias. “We offer a wide range of services for the locations in the Rhine-Main area, without which smooth operation of our works would not be possible”, says the site manager. “It is our aim to lay the foundation for an efficient and economical opera- tion with services of the highest level.” »With the Innovation Centre we want to significantly strengthen the exchange, creativity and cross- border collaboration in Research & Development. It will be an expression of a new innovation culture.« REINER DOLLANSKY
